An Off-the-Charts Hydraulics Challenge

A funny thing happens when you get a reputation for problem-solving: People keep bringing you problems to solve.

At the Stanley M. Proctor Company, we’ve been solving industrial automation problems for over 50 years. Simply put, it’s what we do. So when a call came in from a customer with a huge hydraulics challenge, we rolled up our sleeves and got down to business. This customer needed new controls for a high-powered compacting press. No problem, right?

There was just one catch: The desired speed of the press was off the charts. Literally.

The company wanted to control the press at the rate of 0.002 in/min to 0.2 in/min. That’s extremely low, so low that it won’t even register on a standard hydraulic velocity measurement transducer.

Fortunately, we had a secret weapon at our disposal: Over 50 years of experience with hydraulics.

We put our experience to the test and engineered an ingenious solution that outperformed the customer’s specs.

Read on to see how we did it.
